COLONIAL
WARGAMING.
the
figures shown in the pictures are selected from the author's armies.
"COLONIAL WARGAMING" roughly covers the period of the (long) reign of Queen Victoria (and for me as a Belgian: King Leopold II, Stanley & the Congo) and has always been my favourite period to campaign in, because it is so diverse and full of adventure. My interest dates from long before games like "Space 1889" or "Darkest Africa" came into being; in fact it were the inspiring (black & white) photo's in some of Don Featherstone's books that made me purchase my first colonial figures. The recent interest in colonial war- & adventure-gaming resulted in a number of firms releasing ranges of "28 mm castings", covering far more (native) armies than ever before was the case. No wonder I got hooked on this new trend as well, but that subject is covered in the "AFRIBORIA"-chapters of this site.
