The books shown below are all classics, but they can still be very much of interest to novices, since they nearly all date from a period when wargaming was a small hobby, unknown to the general public and the authors therefor explain in a often simple but detailed way and with great enthusiasm the origins and mechanics of their hobby. You will have to shop around to find copies of these books: probably a hard nut to crack, but by no means impossible. Wargaming as a hobby has grown considerably over the last twenty years and more recent games & rules therefor take it for granted that the gamer is familiar with wargames in general. If this is not the case, these books will prove very helpfull indeed.

"TANK BATTLES IN MINIATURE 1" by Don Featherstone. The Western Desert Campaign in which he himself took part. (PSL 1973 - b&w 156 pages)	"TANK BATTLES IN MINIATURE 2" by Bruce Quarrie. A wargamer's guide to the Russian Campaign 1941-1945. (PSL 1975 - b&w 200 pages)	"TANK BATTLES IN MINIATURE 3" by Bruce Quarrie. This book covers the N-W European Campaign '44-'45. (PSL 1976 - b&w 148 pages)
"TANK BATTLES IN MINIATURE 4" by Don Featherstone. The Mediterranean Campaign 1943-'45 in detail. (PSL 1977 - b&w 152 pages)	"TANK BATTLES IN MINIATURE 5" by Bruce Quarrie. the only post-war subject in the series: the Arab-Israeli Wars since 1948. (PSL 1978 - b&w 136 pages)	"ANCIENT WARGAMING" (Airfix Magazine Guide 9) by Phil Barker. Actually the basics for the Ancient Wargame. (PSL 1975 - b&w 64 pages).
"NAPOLEONIC WARGAMING " (Airfix Magazine Guide 4) by Bruce Quarrie. The forerunner of Napoleon's Campaigns in Miniature. (PSL 1975 - b&w 64 pages).	"AMERICAN CIVIL WAR WARGAMING " (Airfix Magazine Guide 24) by Terry Wise. Introduction to ACW in miniature. (PSL 1977 - b&w 64 pages).	"ALEXANDER THE GREAT'S CAMPAIGNS" by Phil Barker. A guide to Ancient political & military wargaming.(PSL 1979 - b&w 160 pages).
"HNNIBAL'S CAMPAIGNS " by Tony Bath. The story of one of the great military captains of Antiquity. (PSL 1981 - b&w 143 pages).	"THE CAMPAIGN OF NASEBY" by Stuart A. Asquith with photos of Peter Gilder. (Osprey ltd 1979 - color 40 pages).	"RENAISSANCE ARMIES" by George Gush. Detailed description of uniforms and armies of the period. (PSL ltd 1975 - b&w 128 pages).
"SCENARIOS FOR WARGAMERS" by Charles Stewart Grant. Pre-cut battle situations for red and blue forces. (WRG Publications - b&w 132 pages).	"PROGRAMMED WARGAMES SCENARIOS" by Charles Stewart Grant. Even more ready made battles. (WRG Publications - b&w 141 pages).	And last (but not least) just one example of an "Army List" as published in many forms for all historical periods. Most traders offer these lists, but this one is a real " golden oldie" !
